PERTH, AUSTRALIA, (Seven Network/CNN) – A 68-year-old woman’s afternoon on the water with her son turned into quite the memory when she reeled in a massive haul.
Fishing off western Australia, she was enjoying some family time on holidays from the United Kingdom when suddenly there was a nibble on the line. Around 45 minutes later, Elcock, her son Simon, and a few others on board could see the outline.
The giant bass grouper was taller than Elcock herself.
“I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t even know what it was,” she said. “Obviously, I don’t go fishing in England. I play golf.”
Together, the team finished reeling in the prize. Now Elcock has become quite a legend on the boat, pulling in its biggest ever catch.
“I’m very proud of her, very jealous as well,” Simon Elcock said. “I’d said she wasn’t even meant to be fishing, only to be watching.”
There will no doubt be a few fish barbeques over the next few months.
