We dodged tables of wood and stacks of boxes, along with assorted tools, brooms, electric saws and power cords as we stepped through the door, my friend Tom Julian and I.

Once inside, we were surrounded by the subtle scent of walnut and the sweet compelling aromas of fine finishing oils from around the world. Tom’s partner and son, Joe, spotted us as he looked up from one of the elegant wall cabinets being installed in the new gun room that he and his team were working on.

Double Guns of Nashville co-owner

Store co-owner Terry Hetrick has been a highly regarded shooting instructor for more than 20 years.

Tom, founder of the world renowned “Julian and Sons” of Heber Springs, Arkansas, had been shepherding me around Nashville and the surrounding countryside for days as we visited an amazing assortment of gun rooms, trophy rooms, offices, kitchens, wine rooms and personal libraries that he and his company designed and built over the past couple of decades for some of Nashville’s finest, while Joe and his crew put the finishing touches on their latest opus—the new showroom at Double Guns of Nashville.

It had been the vision of Terry Hetrick and Barry Rich to establish a venue where gunners from around the South and across the nation could be brought together with some of the most desirable hunting and competition shotguns and rifles in the world.

Only the best would do for this dynamic pair of dyed-in-the-wool firearms aficionados, and they had rightly chosen Julian and Sons to design, build and install this luxurious new setting that would soon become Double Guns of Nashville and play host to some of the finest firearms ever made.

Terry Hetrick comes from a highly successful background of competitive shooting and had been one of the South’s premier shotgun instructors for more than 20 years. Based at the Nashville Gun Club since 2007, Terry realized that some of his clients were occasionally overwhelmed when confronted with the various options that were available when choosing the right competition gun. So he began thinking of a way to provide them with the guidance they would need in making the right selections, and in 2015 started searching for the right partner and location to help bring his dream to life.

Enter Barry Rich.

In 2015, Terry’s friend Barry Rich had just retired from a long and successful career in banking. Barry had been a dedicated hunter his entire life and had already visited three different continents to assuage his passion for wingshooting. With his career in banking coming to a close, he was contemplating an even larger commitment to his lifelong passion for fine firearms when Terry shared his own ideas of bringing serious shooters and the proper guns together.

The striking result was Double Guns of Nashville.

I enjoyed the time I’d spent with Barry and Terry and learning about their shared vision on my first visit to their new location while it was still under construction. So the following Thanksgiving while spending the holiday with family near Nashville, I made it a point to meet up with them at their newly finished showroom, now in full operation.

After a few well-invested hours of camaraderie and consultation, I came away with an absolutely stunning Model 21 Winchester .410, a perfectly fitted Barbour field jacket and a long overdue new shooting vest—along with an even greater appreciation for what these two lifelong firearms connoisseurs had accomplished.
