It’s a fact of life: dog’s like to fetch.

While hoomans often see fetching as a boring game, for dogs running and grabbing goes back, way back, to that wolf era when we had to run down and grab animals, and then pull them down to the ground and begin eating them. It’s a dog eat everything world.

So, today I still like to run and grab, but it is mostly things Mike tosses. Since I am a peak performance dog, make that a Sporting Dog according to the AKC, I am ready to fetch. OK, I can run and fetch over and over and over — and more. My goal is to keep this up until Mike’s arm falls off, har har! Well, close to it because I know he needs his arms to drive to town to get my treats. So I limit my toss-and-fetching activities.

I like fetching balls, rubber birds, bumper throws and nearly everything tossed. I’ll skip on the frisbees, those are best tossed to small children, har har! In most cases, if you toss it, I’ll go get it.

OK, sometimes I get distracted and find, but then drop, the tossed item. Hey, I’m busy checking something over here out, so make an appointment to work with me, har har! I do like fetching and like playing the game, so I have this on my schedule at least three or four times per day. In fact, most of the time a door is opened and I can go out, I’m ready to play the game of fetch.

Here is the real reason I enjoy fetching: all that dog food and treats that I demand Mike provide are converted to energy, and I need to burn energy. I know hoomans like to sip coffee and eat snacks then just stand or sit around. Not me, all this energy means I need to move. So you tossing a ball and me running to fetch are the ticket to burn energy — my excess energy.

I am an energy powerhouse. I would get a treadmill and hook it to power generator and then the local electrical grid but Mike is afraid I would overload the grid in our region. Me on a treadmill running to generate electricity would also probably require a federal permit and a special building and wiring for me to supply the local electric grid. You hoomans and your rules.

I’m too busy to complete the power grid application, just toss that ball, har har! It’s time to play the game.
