Cameron the Weimaraner laments about the dreaded restraint caused by the leash that hinders him from being his wild wolf-like self.
I must admit I love roaming free. No leash. Just going unchecked as I sniff about, eat bad stuff and garbage and explore the world. Oh, and the best part is raising my leg on every mailbox, bush, rock, light pole and anything that catches my attention. There are lots of these sign posts for dogs.
The reason I like to roam free is that small percent of wolf blood that flows through my veins. I said it. I’m related to wolves.
As I see it, the worst thing you can do to any wolf is pull out a leash and attach it to another un-wolf-like item—a collar. Somehow Mike has collars and leashes stashed everywhere and he often restrains me and tries to control my strong wolf tendencies. My response is to tug his arm as much and hard as possible. I once nearly pulled one of his arms out of the socket. In my defense, I saw a cat.
Back to leashes and collars, a day well lived is a day when those don’t appear. It is demeaning to be restrained. I know there are leash laws (communism?) and times when I possibly should be on a leash, like near a highway with lots of traffic or as we are walking to dove field to hunt. Yes, I get excited and I run ahead, far ahead, because I need to get into the field and look for birds. Never mind if I chase 100 doves away, according to Mike’s grumbling. I honestly did not see any doves; I was busy sniffing the ground. I can’t help but wonder what Mike would look like with a collar and leash as I drag him along on my next hunt. I’m plotting for the day when that leash goes on backwards. Ha.
