Jim Carmichel is in Dallas today for the annual Dallas Safari Club convention, and while he’s there he’ll be signing copies of his new book at the Sporting Classics booth. Visitors will get a chance to meet the legendary outdoor writer, along with receiving a special subscription price for Sporting Classics!
Carmichel will be in booths 854 and 855 at midday today, meeting readers and signing copies of Classic Carmichel: Stories From The Field. The book is a collection of Jim’s greatest hunting stories from North America, Africa, and beyond, as well as pieces on guns and shooting.

Carmichel was the the shooting editor for Outdoor Life for 40 years; amazingly, his stories have never been collected in book form — until now! The 363-page book was published by Sporting Classics and is available online, as well as at the show.
The book includes more than 100 never-before-published photographs from Carmichel’s incredible career.
In addition, those who visit 854/855 between now and the convention’s close on Sunday will receive special pricing on subscriptions to Sporting Classics. Come by and meet members of the magazine’s staff, sportsmen that have helped honor the heritage, the romance, the art of hunting and fishing for 35 years and counting!
Carmichel has signed a limited number of books for sale in the Sporting Classics store in case you can’t make it to the show. Sporting Classics‘ Michael Altizer worked with Carmichel to make the book a reality. For a fan like Altizer, it was an unforgettable experience.

“Working with Jim Carmichel on this book was one of the most enjoyable projects I have ever been privileged to be a part of,” Altizer said. “Jim’s writing was of course spectacular, and the photography he provided was rich beyond description.
“Whether it was the selection of various papers for the text, dust jacket, and end sheets, the choice of cloth and leather for the collector’s and deluxe editions, color options for the dust jacket and foil stamping, or the organization and sequencing of chapters, Jim’s excellent taste and world-class sensibilities were a rich resource for us all to draw upon.
“But the pleasant surprise for me was just how involved and engaged he was when it came time to make the often-complex design and color decisions that are inherent with a project such as this. In the end it was his knowledge, expertise, and especially his good cheer and quick humor that made this one of the most enjoyable and creatively rewarding projects with which I have ever been involved.”
Carmichel and Altizer work to finish the design of Classic Carmichel‘s dust jacket for the collector’s edition.
