I was blessed with access to 40 some odd acres growing up, all of which I could hunt, shoot, and otherwise meander across at will. I could hang deer stands wherever my heart desired, but when it came to building a box stand, cutting trees, or constructing a permanent shooting bench, my grandfather invariably said no. Something about not significantly altering the stand of woods, I suppose. Whatever his reasons, there were to be no major changes made to his land.

So it was that my brother and I had to lay our range bags on the leafy forest floor whenever we took our handguns there to shoot. Thankfully—mercifully—a lone pine fell across our narrow road into the woods one year, providing a makeshift rest for practicing with our rifles.

But times they are a changin’, if not with my grandfather’s outlook on land management then with equipment. I now have a High-Low Shooting Table to move around our back 40 whenever and wherever I see fit, so no more laying a rifle across the fallen pine or bracing against a standing trunk for support.

As its name suggests, the High-Low can adjust down to 18 inches tall for shooting from a sitting position or up to 55 inches for standing shots. The table itself is 17 by 33 inches and can be used by either a right- or left-handed shooter.

The table features three independently adjustable legs that lock securely into place via twin lock systems per leg. The foot of each leg has a steel stake for digging into the ground and stabilizing the table, complete with side steps for applying extra pressure. Its maker, MTM Case-Gard, says it can also be safely used in a carpeted blind, but I haven’t had an occasion to do that yet.

When you’re done shooting, just fold up the table and carry it hither, thither, and yon via a supplied strap.
