A Marylander got more than he bargained for this goose season when a dead Canada fell from the sky and hit him in the head. Robert Meilhammer, 51, was hunting with some friends last Thursday when one of them shot at a skein of geese passing overhead. One of the birds was hit and fell an estimated 90 feet . . . and then hit Meilhammer.
The Washington Post reports that Meilhammer was hit in the face and head by the falling goose, which knocked him unconscious and caused unspecified injuries to his head and face. Two of his teeth were also knocked out.
EMTs transported Meilhammer by ambulance to Easton Airport, where he was airlifted to Baltimore’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. When he came to, he reportedly “knew who he was but ‘little else.’” Maryland Natural Resources Police tweeted Friday that Meilhammer was then in stable condition and awaiting further tests.
