The National Wild Turkey Federation and Powderhook, a sportsmen’s advocacy group, have announced a new smartphone and tablet app called “Gobble Map,” that allows users to document turkey sightings and view where they might find the birds in their area.
The app—available in the Google Play and iTunes stores—compiles user-generated sightings to determine general turkey-hunting “hot spots,” but the areas are board enough so hunters won’t give away their favorite honey holes when reporting from the field.
“These days a hunter may only have limited time to prepare for and plan a hunt,” NWTF Executive Vice President Doug Saunders said, about the organization’s decision to develop the app. “We want to ensure they have the greatest opportunity for an enjoyable time in the woods, so they continue to carry on our hunting heritage.”
We can’t help but think, though, that, while this app seems useful, maybe the areas with the fewest reported sightings are the least trafficked by other sportsmen and thus the best places to hunt?
