Lot 3162. IMPORTANT 16 GA. AHE PARKER SHOTGUN PICTURED ON PAGE 8 OF THE GREEN FLYING GEESE 1929 “PARKER GUNS” CATALOG WITH CASE & FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 16 Ga. 2-9/16″. S# 197081 (1922 factory letter). The quality of this engraving is exceptional for a Parker gun and this very gun is pictured in the 1929 “Parker Guns” catalog on page 8 where is shows both the left action and grip as well as a bottom photo with identifiable serial number. Lot 3163. LATE ILION ERA 16 GA. DHE PARKER SHOTGUN WITH VENTILATED RIB, BEAVERTAIL FOREND AND SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER. Cal. 16 Ga. 2-3/4″. Action is engraved in typical late “D” style with nicely cut scroll surrounding dogs on sides; setter on left, pointer on right. “PARKER” is on bottom of action. Three pheasants are on trigger plate. Lot 3187. JOHN RIGBY BEST QUALITY DOUBLE RIFLE DOCUMENTED TO EVELYN BOOTH: THE MAN WHO HELPED SAVE BUFFALO BILL’S WILD WEST SHOW. Cal. 450 BPE. S# 15417. Booth’s January 1, ’85 entry reads “Went up with Pemberton to see Buffalo Bill’s show again, I fear the “Hon. Cody” is having a bad time of it as there are hardly any spectators and his expenses must be very heavy”. By the time it was all over, Cody was shouldered with an additional $60,000 in debt. Booth notes on page 89 of Cutsforth’s transcription “He is very anxious to take the whole show over to England next spring and I have had several talks with him about it and am going to make an inquiry on the other side.” Upon returning to America in 1886, Booth and Cody entered into a 3 year partnership with Booth paying Cody $30,000 in exchange for 25% of all profits from the show. The London exhibition became one of the most profitable and influential tours in the show’s history. It cemented Buffalo Bill’s international fame, introduced many Europeans to romanticized images of the American West, and established the Wild West show as a global cultural phenomenon that remains well known, even today. If not for a wealthy young Englishman by the name Evelyn Booth, it may have never come to pass. Lot 3123. OVER THE TOP DAKOTA 76 BY JOHN BOLLIGER LEFT HAND LONG RANGE BOLT ACTION RIFLE WITH SCOPE. Cal. 7mm STW. This beautifully appointed left hand bolt action rifle has scrolled gold line inlay at muzzle and at rear highlighting fine semi-relief foliage engraving. Right rear is signed “John Bolliger” “RIFEMAKER”. Action and bottom metal are engraved with exceptionally fine semi-relief scroll and acanthus highlighted by flush gold inlaid lines. This dramatic engraving and gold work outlines flush gold inlaid and Bulino engraved African scene of leopard in gold above two warthogs in detailed background.
