If you’re a sportsman, you likely haul water afield to stay hydrated and quench your thirst. Unfortunately, the plastic bottles that many of us favor end up littered across the woods or floating in rivers, lakes, and oceans. This has been a problem for years, and conservationists conclude that disposable bottles remain a significant source of pollution.
There’s positive news, though: Costa, the iconic sunglass maker, has kicked off a campaign to reduce plastic trash. As a part of the initiative, the company recently released a short video entitled “Kick Plastic” to raise awareness about the issue. (Watch it below.)
The video points out that 200 billion plastic bottles are produced worldwide each year. Ten percent of these bottles, which can take one thousand years to decompose, end up in oceans, killing one million seabirds annually and contaminating two-thirds of fish.
One easy solution to the crises is for sportsmen and the general public to switch from plastic bottles to reusable alternatives. I’ve had excellent luck with Klean Kanteen stainless-steel water bottles, but there are many good options on the market. Regardless of which you choose, we, as sportsmen, need to steward our waterways and wildlife. Let’s support Costa’s efforts; it shouldn’t be the only one keeping plastic out of our rivers and woods.
