Cameron the Weimaraner celebrates his birthday on a relaxing hunting and fishing vacation and enjoys a special birthday meal just for him!

Well, if you are reading my column this week, note I am on vacation. My plans are to retrieve some pigeons I’ll ask Mike to shoot, fight some fish if he catches any and relax on a cushy dog bed. Relaxing will also mean Mike needs to fire up the grill and cook my steak. It’s a full week of celebrating my birthday. I also plan to start the big day (No. 6) with a cheese omelet and maybe some grits. Mike will be cooking, hope he does not burn any of my food. During the day I will also need some cornbread tossed in with the crunchy (alias dog food) I regularly eat.

It’s been a tradition since my first birthday to eat a juicy steak on the annual event. I understand why you hoomans smile when and after eating a steak—they are good!

Every year friends gather to help me celebrate my birthday. Mike says it should be a national holiday, but I believe all dogs need to have a party on their birthday. I know, however, if they all had grilled steaks, there are so many dogs around the U.S. that there would be a steak shortage to go with toilet paper, lumber and gas shortages. More proof some hoomans simply cannot understand basic economics.

Oh, and I also like my steak with a baked potato and some bacon pieces crumbled on top. No need to bring out butter, steak sauce or other additives that you hoomans pour on. As a descendant of wolves, I know I can eat any steak raw and minus the additives. But since Mike likes to grill, I will settle for the grilled steak. Medium cooked please.

Now could be a good time to discuss water in the dog bowl. I like mine with ice. For dogs and hoomans everywhere this week, party like an animal. Drinks are on me—from the dog bowl!
