On February 21 and 22, 2025, Copley Fine Art Auctions is holding its annual Winter Sale. This auction follows the firm’s recent $2 million Sporting Sale. The Winter Sale 2025, consisting of more than 500 lots, will offer an extraordinary opportunity to acquire Zane Grey fishing collectables from The Ronald J. Gard Collection.

This collection of 25 lots features some of the finest fishing reels, rods, photographs, personal letters and collectables that Zane Grey (1872–1939) owned. In addition to being one of the world’s leading big game fishermen, Grey is also among America’s most prolific authors, renowned for depicting the romanticism of the Wild West and the wandering cowboys of the American frontier.

In addition to the fishing lots from the Zane Grey collection, Copley is also offering Ernest Hemingway’s Tycoon Tackle “Bimini King” rod, Stan Bogdan reels and more than 30 other fishing-related lots.

Kovalovsky “Zane Grey, Duplex” big game reel, estimate $20,000 to $40,000.This reel was made for and used by the famous writer and sportsman Zane Grey, who was the first person to ever catch a fish weighing more than 1,000 pounds on a rod and reel.
