Have you ever known a true shotgunner to own only one shotgun? More often than not, hunting and shooting requires different guns for different scenarios, plus the matter of personal preference. This is especially true of bird hunters–some of us will spend days, months, even years researching and testing shotguns in search of the perfect firearm to meet our specific needs, whether hunting mallards in the wetlands or pheasants in the field. The artisans and engineers at Fabarm know this, and build their guns based on the feedback from us picky savvy consumers. Their guns are always improving and evolving to meet these rigorous demands, hence the mantra “moving forward faster.”
Fabarm, the Italian firearms company that has made quality, innovative shotguns since 1900, offers a plethora of shotguns with bird hunters in mind–guns that run the gamut in all configurations from semi-automatics, to over/under’s, to side-by-sides, from guns made for upland bird hunting to sporting clays and trap shooting…all in one place.
Crafted for upland bird hunting, Fabarm’s line of L4S Hunters are semi-automatic shotguns specifically developed for the avid bird hunter whose preference is hunting with a semi-automatic shotgun, but feels like an over/under in the hands. With its lightweight design, slim stock and the gas system’s low recoil, the L4S is comfortable and easy to carry. Available in three grades, the L4S family of shotguns exhibits the same high level of precision and finish that Fabarm is famous for in a product that is competitively priced for the North American market. The L4S has a unique fore-end design and can handle every type of ammo from 2 ¾-inch target loads to heavy 3-inch magnum hunting loads.
For those upland bird hunters who are committed to the over/under model, the ELOS D2 is an ultra-lightweight upland gun with the 20 gauge and 28 gauge weighing just around 5 pounds, 8 ounces to 6 pounds, and the 12 gauge model between 6 pounds, 1 ounce and 6 pounds, 8 ounces. In other words, this gun is easy to carry when trekking up rough terrain chasing chukar at high altitudes or when you need quick handling for birds in tight cover. With its incredible fit and finish at a fantastic price point, the ELOS D2 is a whole lot of gun for the money, making this shotgun an easy investment.
When duck season rolls around, Fabarm’s XLR5 Composite and XLR5 Waterfowler semi-automatics make shooting in cold weather a walk in the park. The XLR5 is the fastest cycling semi-auto on the planet at just .31 of a second for five rounds. Fabarm’s Pulse Piston™ gas operation system is highly regarded as the softest shooting semi-auto on the market. It acts as a progressive brake bleeding gasses, which takes the punishment out of even the heaviest duck loads. Both of these guns have an all-terrain composite stock with a special soft-touch finish that gives them a more tactile feel in all weather conditions. Furthermore, both guns have a large trigger guard, which allows for ease of use with even the bulkiest winter gloves. To protect from rust and corrosion the barrel extension and bores are chrome plated. The bolt has been PVD coated, the chokes are nickel-plated and external surfaces are covered with camo for protection.
The XLR5 Waterfowler even has additional Cerakote® protection on the receiver and fore-end cap. The XLR5 Waterfowler has a unique feature called the LR rib (long rib), which adds 4 ½ inches to the sighting plane and allows the shooter to see down the rib with a more comfortable head-up posture. This reduces stress on your neck and back as you acquire those passing ducks and geese from the blind or boat. Fabarm has even created a special competition choke tube, the EXIS DK, tuned for non-toxic ammo in the most popular pellet sizes. This choke in combination with the TRIBORE™ barrels allow the XLR5 to do what no other hunting shotgun can, use up to extra full choke without any negative effect on the firearm.
New for 2020, Fabarm has introduced, for the first time, a side-by-side made specifically for American upland bird hunters called “Autumn,” aptly named for the memories it evokes of days surrounded by fall foliage and those early morning golden sunrises. Fabarm has been making side-by-sides in Italy, mostly for the European market since 1900 when the factory first started, and their artisans have been perfecting the craft ever since. The Autumn features a gorgeous, upgraded, deluxe walnut stock, which comes in either a traditional straight English stock with splinter fore-end, or an optional pistol grip stock with a semi-beavertail fore-end.
Not only are they both extremely eye-catching, but the Autumn is also incredibly durable–the action is a monolithic design machined from a steel forging for ultimate strength. Plus, the barrels are constructed with high-temperature solder to guarantee strength and durability. Not to be left out is the unique four-lug locking system that seals the deal. The Fabarm Autumn is uniquely suited as a high-end side-by-side that is without a doubt every bit as good as it’s much more expensive Italian brethren, but within reach for a broader consumer base than the latter. At its current price point the Autumn is positioned to do exceedingly well. Dealers took note of this quickly as pre-orders for early shipments have been sold out for months.
With more than 12 decades of shotgun manufacturing under its belt, it is no doubt that Fabarm knows shotguns and their guns stand out among the rest for several reasons. Fabarm is only one of three companies in Italy that manufacture their own barrels. All Fabarm barrels undergo certification from the Italian National Proof House and are tested at a higher level than any other manufacturer, each certified at 1630 BAR (the equivalent of over 23,640 psi) ensuring the safety of their customers. Fabarm also has a unique TRIBORE™ barrel, which due to its tapered bore diameter is able to reduce friction and by consequence the number of deformed pellets, thus ensuring better pattern performance and reducing recoil. This in conjunction with their Fabarm HP (hyperbolic profile) chokes ensures the ultimate in ballistic performance.
With Fabarm’s five-year warranty and service done in the U.S. at their Cambridge, Maryland facility, service is second to none. Finally, all Fabarm hunting guns are safe for steel shot and other non-toxic ammo further ensuring your long-term investment. No matter what type of shotgunning you’ve got planned, the weather or time of year, Fabarm has something for everyone.
