The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition is taking place this weekend in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, and Sporting Classics and Sporting Classics Daily will be there in full force. Many of the magazine’s staff members will be there, letting readers put faces with the publications. We will have copies of the magazine and several of our books there, along with free give-away items. Jim Carmichel and John Seerey-Lester will be on hand Friday through Sunday to sign copies of their new books, and, on top of it all, visitors to the booths will receive a special show price on subscriptions to the magazine!
SEWE is the largest expo of its kind in the nation. The annual gathering brings together artists, exhibitors, carvers, collectors — virtually any and everyone involved in wildlife-related fields. The event spreads out across five locations in Downtown Charleston: Brittlebank Park, Charleston Place, Marion Square, the Marriott Hotel, and the Gaillard Center. Outside venues will allow for demos on fly fishing and other activities, while indoor areas will host lectures from QDMA, decoy auctions, and the like.
With its first gathering held in 1983, SEWE is almost as old Sporting Classics. Like the magazine, the show has grown in leaps and bounds, starting with 100 exhibitors and a modest audience of 5,000 and expanding to more than 500 exhibitors today. SEWE coordinators are expecting 40,000 people to stroll through the attractions this weekend.
Sporting Classics will man two booths to accommodate that astounding amount of traffic: one in Charleston Place and another at Brittlebank Park. The booth at Charleston Place will be located near Jackson Hole Art Auction, Griffin & Howe, and other indoor exhibits, while the Brittlebank Park booth will be alongside the DOCKDOG retriever and Birds of Prey falconry demonstrations. Shuttles will run between the two areas regularly and frequently, allowing visitors to see both booths during their exciting time at SEWE.
Sporting Classics will have booths at both Charleston Place, bottom right, and Brittlebank Park, top left.
Visitors to the booth at Charleston Place have an added incentive for stopping by: Jim Carmichel and John Seerey-Lester will both be there signing copies of their new books and meeting their fans. The two will be available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during normal show hours.
Carmichel’s Classic Carmichel brings together adventures from his 40 years as the shooting editor of Outdoor Life, along with more than 100 never-before-published photographs of his time afield. Seerey-Lester’s The Legendary Hunts of Theodore Roosevelt illustrates in paint and prose the worldwide hunts of the 26th President of the United States. Both are available for purchase through the Sporting Classics store, as well as in person at the expo.
Along with the Carmichel and Seerey-Lester books will be titles by Mike Gaddis, Mike Altizer, Dwight Van Brunt, and more.
Can’t make it out? No worries; Sporting Classics Daily will be sending dispatches back from the weekend’s events. Be sure to check back, and come out to meet us if you can!
