2019 Knife of the Year Presentation
Michael Presnell, our 2019 Knifemaker of the Year, has handcrafted three distinctive cutting tools.
The first is Michael’s rendition of an early Olsen hunting knife carried by legendary archer Fred Bear. Forged from 52100 carbon steel, this 4-inch, flat-ground hunter is paired with a rich American Black Walnut handle and stainless guard. A sturdy handmade sheath accompanies each knife.
In Nordic countries, the Pukko is a small, traditional, general purpose carry knife. Michael has crafted a beautiful Pukko especially for us. The 3½-inch blade of 52100 steel features a complex “Rhombic” grind designed to lighten and stiffen the blade. The stacked Birchbark handle is warm and comfortable and features nickle-silver fittings. A handmade leather sheath comes with each knife.
The Mini-Ulu is a clever little 2¼- x 2-inch cutting tool forged from the same 52100 carbon steel. From fleshing out game hides to striking flint to start your campfire, you’ll find a variety of uses for this handy device. The leather carrying sheath doubles as a handle.
