As I have mentioned numerous times in these columns, I’m a dog on the go.
I stand ready to move and head outdoors at the drop of a hat, or make that the mention of key words. While Mike thinks I’m just lying on the couch and sleeping, I’m observing and listening for these key words: “go and load up.” When I hear those, it’s a mad dash to the back door where I sit or lay in wait so no one can get out before I do.
Once I’m in the garage, however, I know the top spot is by the truck and standing in front of the driver’s door. That truck is not going anywhere until I am inside, har har! I need to, make that must, “go!”
Ok, I have another clue I am watching for from the couch. When I see gear like gun cases, travel bags and a cooler by the refrigerator with drinks and food being dropped into it, this all means go time. I again make a mad dash for the back door so no one can leave without me, har har!
Ok, not all trips and go events end up being hunting, fishing, or camping adventures. There is shopping and the great news is that some stores let me come inside. There I find a lot of stuff to grab. I grab and tightly hold on to anything that gets my attention or is in front of me. Maybe I was a large alligator in a previous life, har har! Of course, this could be why I am not permitted in a grocery store, ugh!
The fall season is the time I am wound tight and ready to go when I see one of the signals or hear one of the uttered “go” trigger words. Warning: do not stand between me and the door or you will learn one of my top skills — bowling with humans. I knock anyone in my way over like a bowling pin, har har! Well, it’s time to go.
