“John spent a lot of time in India. He loved riding on the back of an elephant into the bush to photograph Tigers. Once on a safari the elephant John was one started acting nervous. There behind a tall bunch of reeds was a massive Tiger. It saw them at the same time John saw the tiger. The enormous beast leaped 20 feet in the opposite direction to get away from the safari. This made John think about what it was like a century in the past, when the Royals on elephants went on tiger hunts. This painting depicts the Royal Hunters of 100 years ago in the background with their elephants, boxes, and lots of people looking for a tiger. The tiger in the foreground is looking at the safari in the background – who is really the Royal Hunter?” -Suzie Seerey-Lester

“John and I loved camping “under canvas” any opportunity we could get. While in a tented camp near Yellowstone, we painted outside the tent and walked around the area to see what we could discover. It was a beautiful area with a creek running by the tent. There was lot of brush, flowering bear bush and reeds near the stream, and we could hear the water rushing over the rocks. We would often sit outside the tent at night. One dark evening sitting on the outer area of the tent, enjoying the murky midnight, a rustling could be heard in the reeds next to the creek. It drew our attention. There in the moonlight was a large black wolf watching us. How long had he been there? What was his Dark Intent???” -Suzie Seerey-Lester

“We used to spend a month or two every year in Africa. What an exciting place to paint. I think John must have been a night owl in another life. He loved to sit outside of the tent and watch what was going on around the river. One moonlit night he heard a crashing sound down on the water, on the far bank. We could barely make out what was happening because it was so dark. There on the opposite bank of the Mara River was a Cape Buffalo crashing thru the papyrus.
