My summer plans include a long list of rivers that need exploring.
Ever since the first hoomans arrived here in the New World in the 1400s, there have been roamers among the crowds. The history books are full of tales of pioneers like Daniel Boone, John Bozeman, Lewis and Clark, and many others taking a hike or riding a horse to see what’s over that next ridge. I must have some of that wandering-about-blood in my veins because I also like to see what’s over the ridge and in the next valley. Hopefully I will discover another river full of gullible trout and clueless grouse that have never seen a hunter, har har!
Well, my summer plans include a long list of rivers that need exploring. I hope Mike hires a guide with a drift boat, or breaks out his rafts and installs my platform so I can ride on the back. There are also rivers that must be hiked to be explored. Count me in on all river explorations, har har!
I know Lewis and Clark and their epic Voyage of Discovery included a dog that traveled up the river, to the West Coast, and back–woo hoo! I always feel like that dog when I float some of the same rivers that Lewis and Clark came up and went down. I also stay on the boat if it gets stuck on a sandbar and Mike and guide have to get out of the boat and push and pull har har! Then I really feel like the dog who was along for the Voyage of Discovery ride, har har!
This summer my list is long of new rivers to explore. Mike has even pulled out a backpack, tent and sleeping bags. He has also added my backpack to the growing gear pile. I will encourage him to fill one side with dog food and the other side with treats, har har! If you don’t hear from me after a few weeks, I guess we will be going up rivers and seeking a route to the West Coast har har! Please send help if you don’t hear from me after a month because Mike tends to wander in the wrong direction—ugh. —Cameron
