There were many more  great outdoors and sporting items we came across at the Dallas Safari Club Convention & Sporting Expo. Later today we’ll be attending a seminar by Gil and Vicki Ash on improving your wingshooting and tomorrow one by hunting ethicist Michael Sabbeth and Namibian PH Danene Van der Westhuyzen on hunting in the media. When in Texas, you’re going to want to have cowboy boots. J.B. Hill was on hand to outfit convention attendees with a variety of styles.

Caesar Guerini was presented with the Award of Excellence for shotguns.

Donald and Angie Hill from Oak Creek Whitetails shared a change in whitetail trends that they have noticed. “Big typical deer that look like deer,” is what Donald says customers are looking for adding that the craze for shear mass regardless of how the antlers look is over. “Thankfully, our bucks have always maintained typical frames,” explains Donald. “Sure, ours have lots of kickers and other features that make each buck unique, but our deer generally have big typical frames.” Hill attributes antler growth to nutrition, saying that a fat buck that eats a balanced diet is a healthy buck and that fat bucks grow big antlers.

Westley Richards received an Award of Excellence for Sporting Heritage.

There was so much artwork in so many different forms from bronze sculptures and paintings to wood carvings that use the unique twists and turns in the wood as elements in the finished carving.

Firearms restorer Doug Turnbull received an Award of Excellence.

The taxidermy here is so lifelike that even a mountain lion’s eyes glow green under the flash of our camera!
