Jim Casada—writer, editor, and expert on all things sporting lore—has a new honor to his credit. The literary giant and Sporting Classics contributor was recently named as one of the first inductees into the Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians Hall of Fame. The official ceremony will be held Saturday in Bryson City, North Carolina, with Sporting Classics Daily in town to cover the event.

Casada was one of only four professionals chosen for this new recognition. He was selected for the Hall of Fame’s Communications category, joining Walter Cary (Crafts), Wanda Taylor (Recreation), and Phil Bracewell (Conservation) in the inaugural class.

Jim Casada is the epitome of a man of letters. A former history professor at Winthrop University, he has written for Sporting Classics for almost all of its 35 years. He has also written and edited numerous books, including Remembering the Greats: Profiles of Turkey Hunting’s Old Masters, The Lost Classics of Jack O’Connor, and, fitting for this award, Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains: An Insider’s Guide to a Pursuit of Passion.

Sporting Classics and Sporting Classics Daily would like to congratulate Jim on this prestigious award, and to congratulate the Fly Fishing Museum on their wise selection.
