A Sportsman’s Paradise
Known for its fertile soils and trophy hunting, the Black Belt region is a truly distinctive corner of the country. What’s even more unique in the region is the former home and estate of Major League Baseball All-Star Jake Peavy.
Tucked away in Wilcox County, Alabam, Southern Falls Plantation is one of the most renowned properties in the Southeast. Purchased by Peavy in 2008, this remarkable place includes thousands of acres of hunting land and world-class amenities.
Peavy acquired the property in parcels, then put it all together in 2008. He and his family lived there for years while he pitched for the San Diego Padres. He won the 2007 Cy Young Award during his time with the Padres and later on, pitched for two World Series winners, the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants.
Peavy has now returned to his hometown of Mobile, Alabama where his businesses and charitable projects are designed to contribute to the quality of life for the citizens of Mobile.
Southern Falls encompasses 2,365 acres, but the owner can hunt some 4,600 contiguous acres. After entering the property through the flawlessly crafted gates, you can immediately experience everything Southern Falls has to offer. It’s the perfect place for a family or corporate retreat, event destination or commercial hunting operation—a true haven for the avid outdoorsman.
Hunting opportunities on this acreage are endless. Each year, a number of 150-inch whitetail bucks are seen, along with an abundance of wild turkeys, doves and waterfowl. The property has 50 wildlife openings—some more than 20 acres in size—28 shooting houses, four duck ponds, and 3.5 miles of high fencing, and a deer breeder pen. The herd there has been expertly managed for more than 10 years, with bucks taken by bow only for the past four years. The property also includes a large barn with a walk-in gun safe. It’s everything an avid hunter dreams of owning.
Southern Falls also features numerous notable facilities, but there’s one in particular that stands out among the rest. Mill Creek Saloon is a custom-made saloon that’s authentic in every way. It includes swinging doors with hand-carved details that lead to a full-size bar and a music stage with multiple instruments.
The saloon also includes a two-lane bowling alley with all the equipment needed to play, as well as a game room with a pool table and other arcade games. There’s also a lounge area with several TVs, a commercial kitchen, and a full-size woodworking shop where Peavy’s father crafted all the wooden beds that are on the property.
Other significant features of Southern Falls include a full-size replica of Fenway Park and an outside amphitheater that has hosted several well-known musicians. With state-of-the-art lighting and sounds, it’s the perfect location for a weekend concert.
For anglers, Southern Falls has five stocked lakes totaling more than 33 acres, several waterfalls with swimming holes and beaches, a number of duck ponds, and nearly a half-mile of frontage on Lake Dannelly, a 35,000-acre lake with crappie, bream, and bass. And once your day of fishing is over, you can relax at any of the lakefront lodges to watch the sunset.
The property also provides a place to keep your horses, with a four-stall horse barn with five tack rooms and a fenced equestrian pasture. Other facilities include two large barn shops with expansive storage, offices, equipment bays and roll-up doors.
Located just 90 minutes from Montgomery and about four hours from both Atlanta and Nashville, Southern Falls Plantation is a unique treasure that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
