On the offseason I get to fish — a lot. But fishing (not necessarily catching) with Mike sure feels like work!

Well, it has been a long hot summer of tagging along as Mike fishes. Now, I did not say he was catching — just fishing, har har! On the downside of these fishing trips is that fishing is a lot like work. While I am not opposed to work, I do like lying on the cushy couch and watching TV or listening to the radio. When I’m working I can’t be napping.

So, when I have to go fishing there are chores. I must run down lots of brush choked trails, jump into cold lakes, swim across rushing rivers and then climb steep banks. While I search for trout, rocks and sticks in the water, I must also bark at any and all floating moss and grass that I see. Hey, those could be the Lochness Monster! I also have to climb onto rafts or jump in and out of drift boats. Then there are trips swimming to and from shore to help Mike fight a fish — for the rare times when he actually catches one. As you can tell, fishing is a lot like work. A final chore is hopping into the truck before any loading of fishing gear begins. Yes, I am the supervisor and must be certain treats, food, treats, water and treats are packed for me. I also need a towel for drying off or Mike can smell wet dog all the way home, har har!

Whew, just thinking about all this fishing work makes me tired. Could be time to take a nap and relax, because I know hunting season is up next. Then it’s a full blown marathon! —Cameron
