The realistic approach that Shawn McAvoy reflects in his sculptures is a testament to his respect for the natural world. With over twenty years of experience, his attention to every detail is precise, depicting his subjects in an exceptional fashion, capturing extreme realism from every angle.
Shawn’s inspiration, in part, came from visiting Sagamore Hill, President Teddy Roosevelt’s home in Oysterbay, New York which was located not far from Shawn’s own home. It was there that Shawn learned about Teddy’s wilderness adventures out west, his love of wild creatures and unspoiled lands. Thankfully the president had the foresight to set aside many lands across the nation for all of us to enjoy forevermore — national forests and parks, and federal bird preserves.
Spending time in the Adirondacks, as Teddy Roosevelt did years earlier, Shawn developed an esteem for nature. Since he was a young man, Shawn had an opportunity to observe the wildlife of the North Country while staying at the family cabin in Indian Lake and hiking through the forest. This seemed to spark Shawn’s own imagination. Shawn sketched the animals he saw in the woods, and as an adult he experimented with different media until he found his niche — sculpting in his own unique style.
As a testament to Shawn’s abilities, his eagle sculpture “Majestic Vision” was selected by the Lake George Steamboat Company to be placed on a 14 foot pole in a predominate area above the pilothouse of the 138 foot paddle-wheel steamboat “Minne-Ha-Ha” on Lake George in New York. His work is sought after by wildlife art collectors across the nation.

“Majestic Vision”
bronze, limited edition 50
20″H 34″W 24″D
I was captivated the first time I laid eyes on this majestic bird. I spotted this large raptor soaring over a pond looking for dinner. Suddenly noticing something, the bald eagle went into a steep dive. With the agility of an acrobat, the raptor, nearing the water’s surface, spread its wings to capture the air. Then putting on the brakes and thrusting its legs forward with talons outstretched, it plunged into the water. Emerging with its meal, the bird took flight. So majestic the vision was, I felt compelled to capture it forever in my sculpture “Majestic Vision”.
