Life is so full of perils when you are on — or out of — a boat.
As I have noted before, this summer has been one of many trips down rivers in fishing drift boats. While river cruising is fun, it has dangers like rocks and limbs protruding from the shoreline. Also the sides of the boats get wet and then they are slippery. Just the other day, I fell out of the boat three times in less than an hour. Not good. Like in the classic B&W movies, however, no one yelled “man overboard!,” ha har!
OK, I jumped once and I still suspect Mike may have pushed me off the boat those other two times. Once in the water, I have to be alert, otherwise I’ll be run over by the boat or possibly snagged on a rock or skewered by a sharp stick. Life is so full of perils when you are on — or out of — a boat.
While I am overboard, I often decide it’s time to go on shore and sniff about. So I do disappear into the brush, and this seems to be a huge cause of concern for Mike. He sometimes thinks I may be under the water or under the boat. Maybe he needs an underwater camera and I’ll add that to his Christmas gift list — along with some coal since he pushed me into the water, har har!
OK, before you get concerned, I do have a life jacket. I know some states have departments that give these to kids so everyone can be safe on the water. What about the dogs staying safe? Well, hint, most dogs can dog paddle and do fine in the water. Just grab a towel and be ready because once they emerge, wet dogs always like to move close to hoomans, shake the water all over them and anything they have lying on the ground or sitting up on the table. Don’t be angry with us, it’s a share of the wetness event, har har!
