According to Cameron the Weimaraner, dogs were simply not made to be bathed. Dogs have rules of their own to follow, and bathing isn’t one of them.

Rule No. 2 in the dog world is if something on the ground smells bad, you pinpoint the offending odor and roll on it. The worse it smells, the more you roll and move that rancid smell onto you and into your hair. We dogs have rules that must be followed.

OK, hoomans do not tolerate smelly dogs very well. In fact, most of the times when I roll and smell bad, Mike runs the warm water in the tub, tosses in the soap and then tosses me in. It’s bath time. I demand a rubber duck. Don’t get me wrong, I like swimming and water, but I don’t like baths. They are so degrading and being wet and sudsy is something you should do in private.

OK, baths include rub-downs, towels and time to dry. Once out of the tub, my vigorous shaking slings water everywhere and Mike is not happy. Hey, that’s what he gets for making me get thoroughly wet. The real news is even after towel drying, it takes me about a full day to completely dry out. That normally means sleeping on a cushy dog bed beside the fireplace. Hey, can I get some room service over here?

So, rolling on smelly stuff is dog Rule No. 2. In case you don’t know, Rule No. 1 is: Always take a treat. Treats make the world a better place to live, and fetching a treat gives hoomans a feeling of importance. They have to open the jar or bag, reach in and pull out the treat, then toss it or hand it over. I have observed, and I know most of the time hoomans are not doing anything meaningful, so fetching a treat can give them something to do. If they don’t like doing that, I suggest they go take a bath. They can use their own rubber duck. Remember to shake that water all over the place!
