Cameron the Weimaraner shares what he adamantly believes is the best of all hunting dog names and some advice for naming your own canine companion.

I know names are important—and it’s a very hooman thing to put a name on everything. All items from roads to ranches, and mountains and rivers have names. All dogs have names, too, though Mike once had a friend who named his dog “Dog.” Not very high on the creative scale.

My name Cameron is the result of Mike letting his friends vote online to determine the name for his new best friend—me. While the voting was hot and hectic for a period, a clear winner soon emerged, and my name became Cameron. The name is also used by a small, very small, town in Montana. It’s in the middle of nowhere and has about three buildings, one of which is the post office. The other building is a bar—it is Montana after all.  My long-range plans are to move there someday and run for mayor. Weimaraners are well known for moving in and taking over LOL!

I also have Mike always on the lookout for the name Cameron. He found some Cameron coffee (bummer, he will not cook me any) and he has also found some kids and celebrities with the name Cameron. Odd, there have been no other dogs or towns named Cameron that he can find. Guess that adds to my uniqueness.

While my name is Cameron, and Mike yells it often, I am a dog, so I often ignore those yells and calls with my name. I’m busy and I do what I want to do. It’s the way dogs live.

So, if you are among those honorable folks getting a new dog this year and need help choosing the best hunting dog names, just drop me a note and I’ll be glad to vote on the name for your new owner. Remember, dogs rule.
