Factor in Harmonics to Increase Accuracy

SPONSORED CONTENT: While the firearm, ammunition used and a shooter’s capabilities all factor into the accuracy of every shot fired, there are several avenues you can follow to increase accuracy and be a better shot in the field.

The first thing to look at is the shooter and how he or she practices shooting. Many hunters shoot from a bench with various rests and sandbags to check a rifle’s accuracy, and then simply call things good. But shooting from a bench is much different from shooting in the field, especially when your heart is thumping hard and your shot hurried because a game animal suddenly appears. Hunters need to practice shooting away from the bench, and with any aid used while afield such as shooting sticks and slings. This type of practice helps build confidence and improves your odds of down-range accuracy in the field. Remember to get off the bench.

The next accuracy improvement for shooters is in the rifle. A good gunsmith can fine-tune a particular rifle for a particular load and dial in some pretty impressive groups, but wouldn’t it be something if one gun could have less shot dispersion and tighter groups with a variety of ammo? That can happen when you harness barrel harmonics.

All rifle barrels “whip” when shot, and different loads create different degrees of this whip. Because different loads create different whips, where the muzzle is in the arc of the barrel whip when the bullet leaves the muzzle determines whether a particular load groups higher or lower. Generally, heavier bullets tend to group higher than lighter bullets.

There is also the tendency for barrels to “swell” along the bullet’s flight down the bore. Think of it like an ostrich swallowing an egg.

Precision fitting parts and equally precise bolt-to-bore alignment create a concentric harmonic pattern that all but eliminates dispersion caused by varying barrel harmonics. This level of precision begins with only a small pilot hole drilled through the center of the receiver, then an EDM machine with an electrified wire cuts the metal at a molecular level to form the concentric center of the receiver and bolt lug with .0005-inch accuracy, ensuring true bolt-to-bore alignment and no-fail cycling. The result: A receiver built dead-straight for supreme accuracy.

AllTerra Arms specifically focuses on this kind of precision alignment, along with it’s patented Dual-Lock Barrel Seat technology to give shooters and hunters the ability to use various factory or premium ammunition with minimal changes in down range accuracy.
