Brays Island Plantation is the legacy of a farmer, Sumner Pingree, whose vision was to protect and preserve his plantation by sharing it with a limited number of families who value outdoor pursuits.

A Place Without PeerToday, more than 90 percent of Brays Island’s 5,500 coastal acres are protected from development and enjoyed by a mere 325 participating owners, many of whom live here full-time. The land plan offers a combination of direct saltwater access, fresh and saltwater fishing, an equestrian center with 60 miles of trails, a shooting facility featuring what many have called “the Augusta National of clays courses,” thousands of acres of upland quail and deer habitat, an 18-hole golf course with no tee times and a full nature center. No coastal property in the country can match this. Pat Conroy wrote, “more thought and planning went into designing Brays Island than any place I’ve seen on the Southeastern Coast. It looks and feels like paradise as described in the book of Genesis.”

Perhaps the most important piece of the puzzle for the sportsman at Brays Island is the ability to enjoy a day in the field without the hassles associated with managing a large plantation. Several thousand acres of prime upland habitat are meticulously maintained by our hunt department staff members, who are predominantly land stewards in the summer months and hunt guides in the fall and winter months.

A Place Without PeerOwners can utilize the services of guides or they can pursue bobwhites with their own dogs. For those who don’t want to own a dog, having the ability to hunt behind a brace of impeccably trained pointers is a great option. The plantation owns between 35 and 40 pointing dogs at any given time and keeps a stable of flushing dogs available to owners as well.

It is also possible for owners to acquire a pointing dog and not have to ship it off for training or do the training themselves, opting instead to use the plantation’s on-site dog trainer. Bird Dog Hall of Fame inductee Scott Miller provides instruction and train

ing for dogs and their owners. For those who prefer to train their dogs themselves, there are two training fields located on the plantation.

Brays Island is not intended to be all things to all people. The lifestyle offered here is a unique throwback to a bygone era. To the families for which this works, it is without peer. Please contact us for more information if you feel that Brays Island is a good fit for your family.
