The 2022 Magnolia Speech School Clay Shoot was held October 20th at the Providence Hill Farm in Jackson, Mississippi — and Sporting Classics was a sponsor.
This year, more than 200 shooters enjoyed morning and afternoon shoots leading to an evening party overlooking the lake.
The Magnolia School provides spoken language and literacy skills to children born with hearing loss and communication difficulties; by doing so, these children are able to enter mainstream classrooms with their peers as early as possible.
“Each year Sporting Classics contributes to a charitable cause within the industry,” explains Wayne Nanney, CFO of Sporting Classics. “This year, when Dr. Grace Sturdivant of #otoprotechnologies told us about the Magnolia School, it just made sense to put our support there. Not only is the Magnolia School a good cause, it’s good to see such a facility integrate the shooting sports into its efforts.”
Dr. Sturdivant, through professional networking, was introduced to the wonderful work that the Magnolia Speech School offers to Mississippi and surrounding areas. Her non-profit, Graceful Sounds, raises funds to purchase hearing aids for families who, though above the income threshold for financial aid, are unable to afford hearing aids.
“Supporting this cause is very personal to me,” says Scott E. Mayer, editorial director for Sporting Classics. “When I applied for my first job in the shooting industry, one of the things that helped me stand out from other applicants was being fluent in American Sign Language. Essentially, I owe everything I have to the hearing-impaired community.”
The average annual cost of education at Magnolia is $28,000, and the school relies on the generosity of donors so that it may afford the cost of necessary building improvements. For these reasons and then some — Sporting Classics proudly supported the Magnolia Speech School Clay Shoot.
