Here at Sporting Classics, we—as journalists and editors—try to remain cognizant of the outdoor reportage that precedes us, hoping to better understand our place within the history of hunting and fishing. Because of this, we constantly read old sporting magazines, and among these Rod and Gun, which was in print until the early 1970s, has always been a favorite.

Included below are photos from the magazine that first ran during the 1919/1920 season. The images provide a special glimpse into hunting and fishing at the dawn of the twentieth century, and we hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
