Dr. Webster “Doc” Robinson and his wife, Helen, were inducted into the International Game Fish Association’s hall of fame in 1998, and for good reason. The pair are credited with the first marlin ever caught on an artificial fly. The two invented the now time-tested technique of teasing a marlin up to the surface with baitfish, then casting a fly toward its searching mouth.
Though the record technically went to Doc for handling the rod and fighting the marlin, the two were both instrumental in developing the strategy.
