Watch: Utah Lion

Trekking through the snow after mountain lion.

They may not wear dark manes and roar throughout the night, but mountain lions can be every bit as dangerous as their African cousins. To pursue one with a bow, even with the aid of dogs, means the hunter must have their nerves totally under control; otherwise the results can be deadly for everyone on the ground.

Dwight Van Brunt writes on just this subject in the new March/April 2017 issue of Sporting Classics. His daughter, Keni, strikes out after her long-awaited mountain lion in the rugged hills of Montana—albeit with a rifle. Be sure to check out “Snow Cat” in the new issue, mailing to subscribers and available digitally now, and coming to newsstands March 7.
