Drive four hours north of Niagara Falls and you’ll reach the beautiful, rocky shores of pristine Lake Nipissing, its 337 square miles of water beckoning with unmatched hunting and fishing opportunities. Down a half-mile private drive where deer and grouse can often be seen, and on one of Nipissing’s protected bays, a magnificent custom log home rests on 35 beautiful acres. This home is a tribute to a very talented sportsman, his wife, his unwavering attention to detail, and an immense amount of effort.

Three years in the making, this is a place impossible to replicate. Only a mile away is an optional 100 acres of hunting paradise, where huge whitetails, black bear, moose, and turkeys roam free. In the walls, each log is laser-scribed to its neighbor to fit so tightly they require no chinking. Closely examine the images below and you’ll see a home more than 12 years old, yet the wood appears brand new.

Even before you enter the home you are astounded. A 600-pound elk-shed chandelier hangs above hand-made, castle-like doors, foreshadowing what’s inside. The doors are arched, 3½-inch-thick, 900-year-old cedar and feature hand-made fittings from The Scottsdale Art Factory in Arizona. The door pulls are custom-made, forged fly rods, bent as if a giant muskie is on the line.

Entering the home, you’ll see the astonishing two-inch-thick granite floors. Each stone from the Parry Sound quarry is unique and unaltered. It took two, time-honed craftsmen almost six months to lay the floor, and each stone was handled four times on average.

Next, your gaze is drawn to an eye-level granite, fieldstone fireplace flanked with walleye andirons, then to a vertical center column where hand-carved, hand-painted trout “swim” up and around, embellishing a giant, spiral-cut log column.

Above, you see native blankets and wolf skins draping the railings, while huge whitetail deer from the property preside silently from their massive log perches.

Most of the furniture remains with this home, including the buffalo-hide chairs resting comfortably in front of the granite hearth and the fringed cowhide leather chairs in the living area—all made by First Nations artisans. Just off the living area is the cozy office, or fly-tying, space, with its own French balcony.

The fully appointed kitchen features cabinets also made with 900-year-old cedar. These cabinets have custom-made, hand-forged drawer and door pulls that bring a hint of the forest inside. GE Profile stainless-steel appliances brighten the kitchen.

In the dining area, a stunning table with benches and captain chairs hand-crafted by Toronto artisans provides seating for eight. Adjacent to the kitchen is a guest bath with a hand-painted sink and toilet featuring the owner’s favorite gamebirds.

Just outside the dining area you’ll experience magnificent views of the lake from a deck that features retractable screens, a fireplace, and a gas grill. Also off the kitchen is a comfortable guest bedroom.

Follow the massive, half-log staircase upward with its forged, chain-link rail and you’ll arrive in the master bedroom. An authentic polar bear rug lies on heart-of-yellow-pine floors. A handmade, king-sized cedar log bed appears ready to cradle you for a good night’s sleep. Beautiful Brazilian cherry walls direct your eyes upward again to tremendous log- and truss-work supporting the Australian cypress ceiling. A large master bath with his and her sinks, a shower, small antique refrigerator, and a cedar-lined, walk-in closet are all just steps away.

On this main bedroom level is the most beautiful spot for an office you are ever likely to see. The uppermost floor of a three-floor turret, it provides an incredible view looking out over the lake. Here, sunsets will inspire your most creative ideas. Have you ever considered writing a book?

This level provides an amazing surprise feature: A reconditioned, authentic bank vault door allows access to a humidity-controlled walk-in vault for storage of your most precious valuables. The vault resides within the fireplace’s immense concrete foundation, thereby providing absolute security and piece of mind.

A few minutes away from the home is a matching log guest cabin. It, too, will be sold mostly furnished. The cabin’s bottom floor has three large garage doors and plenty of heated space for your automobiles, boats, jet skis, and snowmobiles. In back are five fenced dog kennels, two of which have two-way doors allowing your dogs to easily get out of bad weather.
