James Purdey & Sons is pleased to introduce the new collection of clothing and accessories for Autumn / Winter 2018. This year, the design team has concentrated heavily on the technical function of each piece, whilst keeping the traditionally elegant look and feel that anyone would expect from a Purdey product. The combination of technical fabrics with the best tweeds, cashmere, wool and silks creates a range with both style and performance.

Tweeds

The colours in the new collection take inspiration from the feathers of Britain’s best known game bird, the cock pheasant. A new technical tweed, the Bembridge, has been added to the menswear range together with the Bywell, named after the winner of the 2017 Purdey Award for Game & Conservation, the Lomond, and the D’Arcy. The ladies tweeds are the Keats and the Stanwick.

The Bembridge technical tweed combines the elegance of a traditional shooting coat with the modern technology that will make it the best field coat in any wardrobe. One of the key factors the design team assessed when looking at this coat was weight and this new coat weighs 30% less than a typical tweed field coat. This has been achieved by weaving nylon threads into the tweed fibres, making it both lighter and more durable. The result is a premium quality tweed that gives a greater freedom of movement when shooting and walking whilst retaining the strength, warmth and look of the best of tweeds. A must-have piece for any serious shooter.

Snipe Coat

The Purdey Snipe Coat is the most waterproof garment in the shooting range. It features a two-layer fully taped waterproof, breathable lining that encompasses a Sympatex ® laminated membrane that reduces the weight and noise of the garment.

Down & Fleece

For the first time for this season, Purdey is introducing a down gilet for both men and ladies. The gilet comes in a moss green colour with a matte finish and is extremely lightweight yet very warm. On top of a shirt or jumper, with or without a coat, this body warmer is an essential for the season.

The men’s Shetland Shooting Fleece Jacket is warm and windproof thanks to two layers of microfleece bonded together with a windproof membrane to give an additional barrier against blustery weather. The fleece features large cartridges pockets with quilting to prevent wear to this area from constant use and shoulder patches in Alcantara.

Ladieswear

There are a variety of exciting new pieces in the ladieswear collection, such as the high waisted breeks, cashmere coat and cape and new scarf designs. The high waisted breeks are a Purdey first, cutting an elegant, comfortable and flattering shape to a traditionally male-orientated garment. These breeks have been specially designed for the feminine shape with a deep waistband, integral belt and slimmer hipline. They pair beautifully with the new ladies field coat that encompasses all of the same female vision as the breeks.

Inspired by the simplicity of timeless classics, the gorgeous ladies cashmere coat translates stylishly from town to country. With a flattering wrap shawl collar and tulip shaped hem, this coat is a unique piece to add to a winter wardrobe. Also made in the same soft, Scottish cashmere is the cashmere wrap, a perfect addition to any outfit, either to layer over a Purdey silk shirt at dinner or as an outerwear piece as the weather turns colder.

Accessories

The accessories range for this collection focuses on leather and silver pieces that complement the elegance of the clothing. The small silver accessories focus on the heritage of Purdey gunmaking, from the gun scroll bangle to the side lock and cartridge shot cufflinks. The gun scroll pattern is also represented on an engraved crystal Hoggit with silver collar, a unique decanter with a conical base intended to be passed from hand to hand around a table before arriving back in its walnut gunstock stand.

The leather accessories have been designed to make every element of the journey easier. The various sizes of washbag cater for any length of stay away from home and the glasses case and travel organiser ensure essentials are well protected.

For those extra personalised elements of any shooting outfit, the new silk scarves, pocket squares and socks will bring a pop of colour and individuality to complement shooting attire. The new styles of ladies scarves include a gunmaking inspired print that shows the tools used to craft the iconic Purdey guns. Additionally, the wool and silk blend patterns include a winter hunting story and moorland florals.
