On July 9, 1955, those words became forever linked when Hayes dragged the largest smallmouth bass ever recorded out of the Tennessee water. The record 11 pound, 15 ounce bass is still recognized by the IGFA as the undisputed champion. And it’s doubtful if that honor will ever change.
