When regulations were implemented requiring the use of non-toxic shot for waterfowl hunters during the late 80s and early 90s, hunters were required to use steel shot in all shotguns used for hunting ducks and geese.  Hunters who cherished using an older shotgun they had, maybe passed down to them from family members, had to put those guns away because of the damage steel shot could do to the barrels of a prized gun.

Bob Petersen a well know person in the outdoor publishing business sought to find an alternative to steel shot and the result was the development and approval of Bismuth shot for use in waterfowl hunting. Improving on the quality of Bismuth, Kent Bismuth^™ is created using a proprietary process that produces uniform, consistent shot for exceptional patterning, superior retained energy and penetration.  The shot is size graded and sorted for roundness using the same tried and true processes which have produced high quality lead shot for years.

Bismuth’s high density is 24% greater than steel and performs as good as or better than lead. Many older shotguns were taken out of safes and once again used for waterfowl hunting.  The downside to the early Bismuth loads was the cost.
