Robert Frost’s poem “Mending Wall” includes the unforgettable line, “Good fences make good neighbors.” What’s true with people is also true with moose, as these rutting bulls prove.
This sparring session took place Sunday outside Kincaid Park, Alaska. Alaska Dispatch News reports that the battle went on from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, with the bull on the inside nearly coming through the fence and the outside moose leaving the scene with a strand of barbed wire from the top of the fence wrapped around its leg.
Biologists later tranquilized the outside bull and safely removed the wire, with neither bull worse for the fighting. The fence, on the other hand, suffered “significant damage,” according to Alaska Dispatch.
