Today, Tuesday, July 15, the Sporting Classics editorial team trekked from Columbia, South Carolina to (mildly) sunny Orlando, Florida, for ICAST/IFTD 2014, one of the fishing industries largest trade shows. The event serves as a venue for manufacturers from the conventional- and fly-tackle industries to show off new products to retailers and media, take orders for the next fiscal year and catch up with one another.
After spending most of the day en route, indulging in cheap coffee, sausage biscuits and country music, we made it to Orlando in time to drop off our bags, shower and wander over to the convention center for the New Product Showcase Preview.
At the preview, we caught a sneak-peak at some of the show’s featured gear, most of which has yet to hit store shelves. Below we’ve provided pictures of the highlights. We also managed to spot fishing legend Bill Dance, who donned his signature Tennessee Volunteers baseball hat. We wish we had our old VHS copy of Bill Dance’s Hilarious Goof Ups and Funny Moments Volume I for him to sign, but we neglectfully left it at home. Maybe next year.
Our first day at ICAST/IFTD 2014 ultimately proved successful, and we look forward to reporting more on the festivities as they progress.
