Nearly every maker of sporting rifles has introduced new models or upgrades of classic guns, but what follows here are our favorites — one rifle from each company or custom craftsman. You may agree with our choices or you may prefer some of the other new products from rifle and ammunition manufacturers. Hop on their websites or get down to your local gunshop to study and dream.
Bergara Barrels, already a well-known OEM supplier to several of the world’s top rifle manufacturers, entered the custom-rifle business three years ago. This year, with the bolt-action Premier Series BPR-16 Classic and BPR-16 Stalker, Bergara enters the production-rifle market.
The Premier Rifles are comparable to Bergara’s Custom Rifles, but the company has standardized some features for greater efficiencies in parts production and assembly in order to deliver them at a mid-level price point.
Bergara’s high-performance 416 stainless-steel barrels go through a proprietary honing process at its Spanish barrel-making facility. Once at the Bergara USA factory, the barrels are coupled with Bergara Premium actions that feature a coned-bolt nose and breech and sliding-plate extractor.
Premier Series BPR-16 rifles are built on your choice of hand-laid fiberglass or Grade 5 walnut stocks, both featuring aluminum bedding blocks that provide strength without adding unnecessary weight. The barrels and actions receive a Cerakote finish, eliminating the glare of the stainless steel and providing extra protection against the elements.
Blaser R8 Professional S
The R8 Professional S pays homage to the R93, the straight-pull action that helped redefine the modern bolt-action rifle. The new R8 shares many of the features that exist in Blaser’s current R8 line, with the exception of a removable trigger and magazine housing. The Professional S is loaded or unloaded through an ejection port just like the original R93.
Sure handling is assured with the elastomer inlays featured in the traditional brown-and-black stock. All existing barrels, bolt assemblies, and scope mounts function flawlessly in the new platform. The Professional S is available in calibers from .222 Rem. to .375 H&H.
Browning AB3 Stalker
The AB3 Stalker combines a matte-blued finish barreled action with a rugged matte-black synthetic stock to create a high-performance hunting rifle that won’t blow a hole your budget.
The button-rifled barrel is triple-checked for interior finish and straightness, then completed with a hand-reamed chamber for tighter tolerances. The free-floating barrel eliminates contact interference from the forend, enabling the barrel to perform consistently and accurately. A fast 60-degree bolt lift allows the bolt to be operated in a smooth motion. The bolt body is plated with matte electroless nickel for smother operation and added corrosion resistance. The bolt-unlock button allows the bolt to be opened with the top tang safety in the on/safe position.
Browning X-Bolt Eclipse Target
The new X-Bolt Eclipse Target rifle will perform right out of the box. You don’t need to add a better trigger, bed the action, free-float the barrel — all of that has been done. Built for function, it comes with a crowned design for superb accuracy and heat dissipation.
Christensen Arms Classic Carbon
Designed for the avid hunter, the Classic Carbon incorporates space-age technology in a rifle that can take on the toughest conditions while retaining match-grade accuracy. The Carbon Classic comes standard with a 26-inch, carbon-fiber-wrapped stainless-steel barrel that delivers superior durability in a lightweight package. Its Tier 2 fiberglass stock and shock-absorbing recoil pad offer an ergonomically correct purchase.
The Classic Carbon features a fully gunsmithed bolt-action with a spiral-fluted nitride-coated bolt, Timney trigger, and a drop-box magazine. Made in the USA.
Dakota Arms 76 PH
The Model 76 is a result of two famous rifles: the Mauser 98 and Winchester Model 70. Today, Dakota Arms makes Models 76 and 97 to include claw extractors, controlled round feeding, and three-position safeties — each feature proven to ensure a rifle’s reliability under the harshest conditions. Each model is available with either a synthetic or wood stock.
New this year is the 76 PH with synthetic stock in a classic Safari profile chambered for popular African big-bore rounds. Also new, the Model 97 Outfitter uses a stainless-steel barrel and action with a slimmer synthetic stock for a more lightweight package.
Dakota Arms has surfaced from the Great Recession with a boost from Remington Outdoor Company (ROC) and is continuing on its path of making fine hunting rifles while using its pool of gunmaking talent to build Remington’s Custom Shop firearms, an operation that will be housed in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Fierce Firearms CT Edge
The CT Edge utilizes aerospace components to deliver lightweight, long-range accuracy. The carbon barrel and titanium action result in a rifle that weighs less that six pounds but still delivers tack-driving accuracy.
The CT Edge is offered at a considerably lower price than its competitors and comes with a ½-inch group guarantee at 100 yards. A validation target is included with every rifle.

The contoured barrels are hand-polished and sport acid-blued finishes.

And, available upon acquisition, a silver or gold oval, fitted and hand-engraved with your initials.
The new Magnus long-range shooting system was designed to offer the ultimate shot sequence, from trigger break to follow-through. Advanced design techniques and rapid prototyping enabled the Gunwerks engineering team to strategically test at every stage of development. The result is the perfect long-range rifle stock.
Four areas offer unique engineering enhancements. The grip positions the hand perfectly for a precise trigger break; the toe line prevents the stock from dropping on the bag under recoil; the negative comb reduces muzzle rise and pulls away from the face under recoil; and the true flat forend is more stable on a front rest and reduces torque.
Pairing the new Magnus stock with the all-new GLR action, a 4G barrel contour, and lightweight stock fill, the rifle’s weight and handling before and after recoil offers unmatched, long-range precision, and sight picture follow-through.
Hill Country Rifle Company
Hill Country Carry Weight .375 Cheytac
The Carry Weight .375 Cheytac custom long-range rifle is built for a very small segment of the bolt-action market and recently hit a 36-inch target from a remarkable distance of 3,800 yards. The rifle weighs only 12 ½ pounds without scope.
The rifle is built on a Stiller action and features a Benchmark 27-inch fluted barrel, Jewell trigger, highly customized McMillan stock, and a Miller prone-position muzzle brake.
Hill Country Rifles is best known for accurate hunting rifles and that’s still its main purpose.
Holland & Holland
Holland & Holland 465
The venerable British gunmaker introduced the magazine rifle around the turn of the 20th century. The .375 belted cartridge, first offered in 1912, is still a prominent caliber.
Holland & Holland began to explore a belted version of the flanged .500/465 double-rifle cartridge that would be suitable for magazine bolt-action rifles. The cartridge is now in the lineup of calibers offered by the company.
The new .465 is based on standard Holland & Holland design principles to ensure smooth feed and easy extraction. The .465 belted uses the same 480-grain bullet as the flanged version, with a muzzle velocity of 2,375 feet per second; it is capable of 200-yard shots due to its flat trajectory.
Holland’s New York gunroom has a newly manufactured rifle chambered for the cartridge. Weighing 10 pounds,
4 ounces, it’s built on a square bridge, Mauser-type action with a 24-inch barrel, and features highly figured Turkish walnut.
Howa Alpine Mountain Rifle
At only 6.7 pounds, including a Vortex Viper 3-9×40 scope and Talley rings, the Alpine Mountain rifle features a two-stage trigger, Ammo Boost detachable magazine system, Cerakote gray barreled action, and Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. The rifle ships with detachable magazine system installed and traditional steel floorplate included in the box.
Available in .243, .308, and 7mm-08, plus a new
6.5 Creedmoor caliber (with traditional floorplate only), the Alpine was designed as an easy-to-carry rifle in steep and rugged terrain. Better yet, it provides fantastic accuracy without a heavy recoil.
There are many AR rifles made in various degrees of quality. Jarrett set out to make the best of the best by using a special aluminum to develop a lower receiver that is milled and machined rather than a casting. All of the other parts are precisely machined.
The real heart and soul of the company’s AR is a Jarrett barrel with tolerances unequaled in the industry. You will get three targets shot at 100 yards with group average of .3 to .4.
Colors of stock and metal are your choice, rigged out to your specs such as butt stock selections, rail systems for lasers, night scopes, flashlights, etc. Jarrett can also thread your barrel for a suppressor.
The rifle comes with a patented brake system included. Each rifle has a 30-day, 100 percent satisfaction guarantee. If you’re looking for the best in an AR-10 or AR-15, you just discovered where they’re made. Call for any questions.
Kimber Mountain Ascent
Weighing less than five pounds, the Mountain Ascent is the lightest production big-game rifle ever offered, yet it delivers legendary Kimber accuracy with a sub-MOA standard. The stocks are designed with the Gore Optifade Open Country pattern and reinforced with carbon fiber for strength, and the stainless steel barrel and action shrug the elements. The action offers controlled round feed and a three-position wing safety; match-grade barrels, chambers, and triggers ensure accuracy.
Custom features include a fluted barrel, bolt body, bolt handle, and muzzle brake.
New calibers include .270 WSM, .300 WSM, 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag.; which join the .308 Win., .270 Win., .280 Ackley Improved, and .30-06 Springfield. Also available exclusively from Kimber and its Master Dealers are matching Open Country Zeiss Conquest HD5 scopes.

With the new M98 Magnum, Mauser writes yet another chapter in the history of the legendary Mauser 98 bolt-action system.
Performance characteristics include a newly designed, ergonomically improved, horizontal three-position safety that acts directly on the firing pin. Pillar beddings, in addition to double recoil lugs, mean the system and stock are mounted absolutely free of any tension. Renowned for its stability, the long extractor provides for controlled feeding.
Other benefits include a Double Square Bridge system that allows for swing-off scope mounts; windage- and elevation-adjustable two-leaf Express sight with improved sight picture; and stylish big-game stock with classic cheekpiece. With top-quality components through and through, the 48 Patriot has a hand-lapped, match-grade stainless-steel barrel; finely tuned trigger; and glass and pillar bedding to ensure accuracy. The fiberglass stock and Cerakote finish provide unmatched, all-weather performance. A push-bottom style, lightweight floorplate allows for easy unloading, and a soft pad helps to tame recoil.
Todd Ramirez .375 Custom Rifle
If you can dream it, Todd Ramirez can build it. He handcrafts both English and American-style rifles using the best components; every one is guaranteed to shoot ½-inch MOA with factory ammo. Todd uses Mauser and Winchester Model 70 actions that he hand-polishes inside and out to ensure proper feeding. His match-grade barrels are crafted especially for your gun, and the wood is usually Circassian Turkish, Clarol English, or French walnut.
Now the fun part: picking the accessories. There are many choices, including front sights, express sights, swivels, and crossbolts. Ebony-plugged crossbolts or metal with engraving. Grip caps and butt plates can be either skeleton or solid, or there is always the option of a leather wrap pad.
Ramirez offers a variety of metal finishes — bluing the barrels and action, Nitre bluing on the extractors and other small parts, and color casing on the shroud. As for the stock’s finish, you can select from satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss oil, the latter applied by hand in 30 separate coats. For your engraving, you might want initials and a fine border checkering or go all-out and do full engraving. The entire rifle-building process takes about a year and a half to complete.

Sauer & Sohn
Sauer & Sohn S 404
The S 404 is a collection of advances in rifle safety, ergonomics, accuracy, performance, and flexibility. What really stands out about the S 404 is its patented safety concept, which is a completely new manual cocking system. The ergonomic metal cocking slide on the bolt shroud allows the rifle to be cocked both comfortably and silently since the sound of the detent button is automatically muffled by the soft flesh of the thumb. The slide is retracted to its uncocked position by simply pressing the button again. In addition, an automatic firing pin safety prevents it from firing when the bolt is not fully closed.
Another highlight of the S 404 is the revolutionary Quattro trigger system. With the help of the integral Sauer universal (SUS) key, you can choose between four different trigger pull weights, and changing it takes only seconds. The SUS universal key also allows for fast disassembly. Replacement of the stock and barrel can be carried out in less than a minute. Further, the removable bolt head allows you to shoot all available calibers with a single rifle. Simply swap out the bolt head to transform the S 404 from a .30-06 to .375 H&H Magnum in two easy steps.
The rifle is available in four different models: Classic, Classic XT, Elegance, and Synchro XT.

As a result, the short-action cartridge provides magnum energy for devastating performance on game, without magnum recoil.
These qualities have inspired Savage Arms to chamber six of its most popular big-game rifles in the caliber. They include the 11 Long Range Hunter, 11 Hog Hunter, 16 FCSS, 16 Bear Hunter, 11 Trophy Hunter XP, and 16 Trophy Hunter XP.
